Thanks for all the replies.

I think I should sketch, what we have in mind with get_appl:

It shall be part of a methodology for including OpenROAD into a source code
management system. We want to utilize get_appl for writing a piece of
software that enables code-merging, i.e. that modifies a component's code.
I have the information that this shall be possible - however I do not know
how.
That's why a documentation or according instruction would be an asset.
