[Openroad-users] documentation on get_appl?

Ah... join the queue of other OpenROAD users looking for the same
functionality :-)

I have raised a TAR with Ingres so that in-built support for SCM systems
is in the workbench.

It would help if the export files were in a more accessible format,
otherwise you will have to write your own mechanism to export the
component and it's associated data into a format (i.e. XML) that is more
easily compared - that way you can use the SCM's ability to merge code
changes. I'd imagine that trying to write your own would be a challenge.

It should be possible to parse an objects structure recursively and
serialise it into a text string, but you would need to have some
specific handling for certain object types, such as graphics and
stringobjects.

However, I'm not so sure how successful you would be if you needed to
rehydrate an object back from the text stream - as some attributes are
write once or not changeable.

If you make any progress, I'm sure the user community would be
interested to hear.

I also hear rumours that other OpenROAD users are working on similar
projects - it would be nice if we had a forum for some co-operation on
joint community project.

Regards,

Pete

Subject: [Openroad-users] documentation on get_appl?

Thanks for all the replies.

I think I should sketch, what we have in mind with get_appl:

It shall be part of a methodology for including OpenROAD into a source
code
management system. We want to utilize get_appl for writing a piece of
software that enables code-merging, i.e. that modifies a component's
code.
I have the information that this shall be possible - however I do not
know
how.
That's why a documentation or according instruction would be an asset.

Regards,
Robert
