Stephen,
While we found a number of years ago it was easy in OR just to take the 
first letter as uppercase and make the rest lower case, and even to handle 
some exceptions, unless you have somebody to go through the database 
manually and adjust all the exceptions - and we had an international list of 
names, then you will create more errors than you might wish to have.
I offer the following as examples of not doing a manual walk through.
    Ludwig Von beethoven or Ludwig von Beethoven
    James d'Ath or James D'ath or James D'Ath
    Ieuan Ap Gruffydds or Ieuan ap Gruffydds
    Piers Ffortescue-Smythe or Piers fFortescue-smythe or Piers 
Ffortescue-smythe or ...

And don't get me started on what is the global version of the UK conception 
of first name and what is last name! As I said we had an international list 
of names.


In the end we left it alone!
