[Openroad-users] Word documents embedded in OR troubles ...

I have a way of using Word Mail-merge to produce invoices from our
Openroad application.

The word document is created to run the merge command on open, (every
time the document is opened it queries the DB for the data).

The merge is based on a query of a DB table, which I fill with the data
I wish to appear on the merged document, I then just make an active-x
call from Openroad to Word to open the document, and Word handles the
rest for me.

I found it was much easier to do most of the work in Word as I have had
problems with active-x calls from Openroad before - it is probably only
of use for producing reasonably fixed format documents like invoices,
but has been in use for 3 years without problem - probably because its
quite simple.

I can try to make up an example if you like.

Alex.

I was wondering if you could embed a Word document in OR, and I came
across this ActiveX component/container "DSOFramer" from Microsoft.

It works ok, albeit a bit slowly, but unfortunately the main thing I
would like to do, which is Mail Merge, is of course disabled. I get a
"method is not available because this document is in another
application" error message in the trace window when I try execute the
mail merge. Looking on google, other people seem to have encountered
the same problem, but have no solutions, I think its something to do
with COM, but its all way above my simple OR brain ... so I was
wondering if anyone else had tried to do anything similar, mail merging
in an embeded Word document, using this or any other ActiveX container?
