Great ! Yes arctan is in the manual. This should work within float8.
I was trying to avoid using tan as it can have high values for certain
angles.

I think there's an arctan function, and you can get arccos from it with
the formula
arccos(x) = arctan(sqrt( (1-x^2)/x))
