Gareth,
We looked into this for a customer of ours some time ago and we
evaluated a number fo options ....
Ingres Replicator
Shipping ckp and jnl files and rebuilding
GoldenGate (DateWise)
At the time Replicator was buggy and a pain to administer. The ckp and
jnl file routes are not going to acheive high resilience. GoldenGate at
the time did not work with Ingres (but they said they would make it so
for a cost), this may have changed now although not on that version of
Ingres......
The result of our investigation was to recommend The High Volume
Replicator product by PSB of Amsterdam. We tested this with Ingres 6.4
and it worked well. At the time this work led to nothing but I have
learned subsequenetly that the customer has now implemented it (although
on Ingres 2006).
I suggest you take a look at it - I remember we were impressed with the
technology. http://http://www.highvolumereplicator.com/index.shtml
Hope this helps.
If you have specific questions I would be happy to help - providing I
can find the document we wrote!!
Cheers,
Paul

Subject: [Openroad-users] Let's talk replication & ingres replicator
Hi All,
We have an old system, which needs to be replicated, so if the live
system goes down, the standby system can take over. The transactions
then done on the standby system will need to be applied to the live
machine when it returns.
I remember Ingres Replicator being a solution.
The main problem which i think will be a stumbling block, would be it's
old technology.
Ingres 6.4 DB
OpenROAD 3.5
Solaris 8
Any thoughts/comments/suggestions on how this could be achieved, or if
it can.
Cheers,
Gareth Edwards
