Stacy,
The OpenROAD development team is working with a partner to lay down a
foundational feature by adding an additional import/export file format
for OpenROAD source code. This new file format is intended to be a new
feature of OpenROAD and as such will be documented and is to be suitable
for use with Source Code Management (SCM) systems that manage text
files. Specifically, this new file format will be documented, human
readable, produces clean differences between different revisions of a
file, allows changes to be merged, and allows OpenROAD source components
to be managed by the third party SCM systems. Current plans for this new
feature call for it to be implemented, tested and, made available in a
subsequent release of OpenROAD 2006 on all supported Operating Systems.
Design documents are currently being written and are in the process of
being peer reviewed. Some initial prototyping has been completed on this
project.
In addition to enabling integrations with SCM systems, this project is a
sub-project of the OpenROAD Unicode project. Another benefit that it
provides to OpenROAD developers is that in addition to enabling 3rd
party SCM systems to manage OpenROAD assets, OpenROAD GUI tools can be
developed that tightly integrate with these systems. We intend to do
this development in an open environment and welcome any interested
parties to participate. David Tondreau, has done a fantastic job of
kick starting our community efforts around OpenROAD with the release of
the Frequent Flyer Demo which has been released under an open source
license as well as a commercial license. It can be found here:

Over the next few months several projects that we are working on will
appear on our community wiki site including the one I have just
described:

Anyone who is interested in this project should send me an email, at
Joseph.Kronk at ingres.com and I will provide some further information.

Subject: [Openroad-users] Version/source control for OpenRoad
I'm looking for a version/source control system for OpenROAD. I need
something that will allow any two versions of a frame or 4GL code to be
compared to any other version of that same frame or 4GL. I need
something that will allow branching and automatic merging so that
multiple developers can be working in overlapping areas without having
to manually update one developer's work with that of recently submitted
work from another developer.
